Bundle strategies for increasing AOV with RecoMelon Bundles™
RecoMelon Bundles™ supports several basket-growth strategies, from complete-the-look and anchor-product bundles to tiered multi-buy and occasion-led sets. The strongest strategy starts with a relevant complementary set, then uses the right incentive and Bundle Rescue to keep the basket viable.
Start with the shopper's existing intent
The strongest bundle does not begin with products a merchant wants to clear. It begins with an item the shopper already wants and asks which additional products genuinely make that purchase more useful, complete or desirable.
RecoMelon Bundles™ uses complementary product intelligence to build sets around that anchor product. Unlike Shop Similar, which finds alternatives to an item, Bundles™ looks for products that work with it.
1. Complete-the-look bundles
Complete-the-look is suited to fashion, accessories and other categories where several products form a coherent visual combination. An anchor dress might be paired with footwear, a bag and jewellery, while a jacket could anchor several alternative outfits.
Rather than forcing one fixed set, merchants can present multiple looks so shoppers retain choice while the recommendations remain coordinated.
2. Anchor-product bundles
Use a high-intent product as the centre of the recommendation experience, then recommend products that complement its category, colour, style, occasion or other relevant characteristics.
This is useful when one product naturally creates demand for several adjacent categories and gives RecoMelon a strong signal for the rest of the set.
3. Good-better-best bundle depth
Not every shopper wants the full set. Structure the experience so shoppers can add one complementary product, a stronger two-product combination or complete more of the look. This creates several routes to a higher basket instead of making the largest bundle the only successful outcome.
4. Tiered multi-buy bundles
Connect basket depth to an escalating incentive. For example, a merchant might offer one saving for buying two eligible products and a stronger saving for buying three or more.
The commercial logic should reward meaningful additional spend without making the first recommended product feel overpriced on its own.
5. Occasion-led and use-case bundles
Build sets around the job the shopper is trying to complete rather than only product adjacency. Examples include a wedding guest look, travel set, workwear edit, room scheme or other use case where several categories naturally belong together.
This approach is particularly useful when The Index™ or merchandising context has already revealed the shopper's intent.
6. Content-led bundles with LiveGrid™
Use UGC or video to show how several products work together, then make the products in that story directly discoverable as a set. LiveGrid™ can provide the visual proof while Bundles™ provides the commercial path to buying the combination.
7. Resilient bundles with Bundle Rescue
A bundle should not fail because one SKU is unavailable or unsuitable. Bundle Rescue can replace an individual item with an appropriate alternative while preserving the role that item played within the set.
This makes the bundle an expression of shopper intent rather than a fragile fixed list of SKUs.
How to choose a strategy
Start with the customer problem. Use complete-the-look when visual coordination matters, anchor-product bundles when one SKU naturally creates adjacent demand, occasion-led sets when the shopper is solving a wider task, and tiered incentives when there is a clear commercial reason to encourage greater basket depth.
What to measure
- Engagement with complementary recommendations.
- Additional products added from the bundle experience.
- Average number of bundle products purchased.
- Bundle completion and partial-bundle conversion.
- AOV and influenced revenue.
- Use of Bundle Rescue and whether swapped sets still convert.
